Double Rainbow

Rotten fenceposts snap

In the wind this evening,
Ferries pitch beyond
The harbour light.
A double rainbow springs
From fumes of chimney pots
Through a leaden sky
To an amber glow.
Antennae creak on masonry
Which the arches tread to earth,
Leaping with their shadows
Through yellowing grey.
And we play endgames
In our ark, our covenant,
Glancing through windows,
Seeking for Canaan.
From our beaded panes I see
This coloured power arch the sky,
While a yellow anvil squats
On the world's south rim.
